Celtic Sunspots

ink drawing on 9″×11″ sketchbook paper coloured on computer
The pagan Celts revered the sun as an extremely powerful symbol, associated with healing, fertility and a source of life. In the days of ancient Britain, where the weather was harsh and survival was far from guaranteed, its warmth and light was a source of inspiration.

Belenus
In Celtic mythology, Belenus (also Belenos) was a deity worshipped in Gaul, Cisalpine Gaul, Britain and Celtic areas of Austria and Spain. He was the Celtic sun god and had shrines from Aquileia on the Adriatic to Kirkby Lonsdale in England. The etymology of the name is unclear. Suggestions include "shining one, “the bright one” and “henbane god”.

I'll Rescue You Later...After I Put On My Lipstick!

9″×11″ ink drawing on sketchbook paper
Inspired by the idea of Feminist means “No Cosmetics!”
Yes, I know, that’s sort of an outdated idea but there was a time when if you were a “real” feminist" cosmetics were a no-no!
Cosmetics in the 1970’s
Susan Brownmiller, for instance, called an unadorned face “the honorable new look of feminism”.
I always felt that a strong woman could do whatever she wanted…wear lipstick, rescue the knight in shining armour , or maybe rescue the dragon…whatever she felt like doing!

Hare Krishna Dance

ink drawing on 9″×11″ sketchbook paper
inspired by a dream of a school house…I was walking through a multistoried brick schoolhouse. As I walked through the hallway I would peek into the classrooms. Some of the classrooms had toddlers in them and some had teenagers and some had much older people. I peeked in the last room and this figure was at the head of the class playing a flute. The students were all chubby little mice and they were leaping and climbing all over the old fashion school desks.  The Krishna figure was smiling slightly but then suddenly clapped his hands loudly and said “If you do not take your seats you will never move on to the next class!” There was a lot of scurrying and all the mice headed for their chairs. After that I just wandered on but the rest of the dream had nothing to do with what I wanted to draw.

The Synaptic Samurai

Synaptic Samurai

Synaptic Samurai This was inspired by a dream I had after reading Rim by Alexander Besher................................................. Set in the near future where virtual reality has dominated the economy and popular culture (much like today’s internet), commercial space travel is commonplace, and orbiting space hotels surpass the complexity of even the International Space Station, it follows the story of former psychic detective Frank Gobi and his son Trevor as they solve the mystery of a VR crash that leaves millions of people in a trancelike state.................................................................. ink drawing on 9″×11″ sketchbook paper.............................................. The Synaptic Samurai…for when your message must really get there (faster than) overnight!.............................................. Synapse Synapses are essential to neuronal function: neurons are cells that are specialized to pass signals to individual target cells, and synapses are the means by which they do so. In my dream, instead of bicycle couriers there were Synaptic Samurais. They were in charge of delivering messages from the unconscious to the conscious. Sometimes they fought great (and messy) battles in the brains of their masters. They did not always succeed in delivering their messages uncorrupted by other signals................................................. There was no Synaptic Samurai in the Rim novel…but I wish there had been!
